SharePoint lets you add sections to pages and add components (web-parts) to those sections, but only a small number of users know that the sections they add can be collapsed and expanded. The feature would let organisations put more content on pages with sections that can be collapsed. This would allow users to expand the sections according to their needs and see the relevant content without having to scroll down the page.
In this blog we will learn how to create the collapsible sections:
- Go to the page of the site collection where you want to add a section that can be collapsed.
- Click the "Edit" button on the command bar.
- To add the new section, click the plus button on the left.
- Click on the edit section icon once the new section has been added.
- Turn on the button that says "Make this section collapsible" in the property pane.
- When you will enable on the toggle switch, you will see the following options.
- Show divider line between section
- Expand collapse icon alignment
- Left
- Right
- Default display
- Collapsed/Expanded
- You can change the settings above to suit your needs.
- Give a name to the section.
- Once you're done setting up the page, you can publish it.
- Now you have your sections that can be hidden or shown on the page.
Use of anchor links in the collapsible section heading
When you use the Text web part to add H1, H2, or H3 headings to a SharePoint online modern page, anchor links are automatically added. As you can see in the picture below, the anchor connections on collapsible section heads are now the same. When you move your mouse over the section heading, a link sign shows up. If you click this link, you can find out the full URL of the modern page, including the anchor in the browser's URL bar. Right-click on the link to copy it.
In this blog, you have seen SharePoint modern pages now have the ability to have sections that can be expanded and collapsed. When Microsoft releases the option to create tabbed sections, I will let you know. You can reach me at bhupendra@sharepointguruji.com if you have any inquiries.
